Digital Storytelling Project
- Indicate what assessment/evaluation traits you selected and why (in other words, what's your rationale as a critic of these stories?)
- Story – This is a digital story so story should be the most important.
- Content Understanding – If the person is taking a stance or educating, I want to know that they know what they’re talking about.
- Originality, Voice, Creativity – I am interested in how these stories use creativity to help our generation stay engaged.
- The extent to which these traits are successfully present and utilized in the given stories
- Story – I think this one had a fairly strong story. It talked about this teacher’s experience with her class making a digital story. She talked about things that went well and things that didn’t go so well.
- Content Understanding – I don’t think there was much content to understand with this one. She did show that she understood the lesson goals and was able to tailor her lesson to those goals. She also understood her students and knew what she could expect of them.
- Originality, Voice, Creativity – The video was mediocre for originality, voice, and creativity. It showed a decent amount of photos and I liked seeing the students’ work. Her voice was quite slow and methodical but it seemed to work for this video. The project she did was quite original.
- What these traits fail to capture about the selected story (that is, what other characteristics of the story are noteworthy, and why?)
- This story was a good overview of her project. I liked being able to see what the students completed. She did a good job of telling viewers the process of her project including her thought process. I’m glad that the project went so well with her students!
- Based upon your trait evaluation, what modifications and changes to this digital story might improve aspects of narrative, production, media usage, and/or audience engagement?
- This could have been stronger with a better title. I actually clicked on this one because I thought it was a story that had been made by a third grader. I wanted to see what a third grader was capable of. Instead it was made by a teacher about projects that third graders completed. I felt mislead until I wanted to see what the students had completed.
