- Indicate what assessment/evaluation traits you selected and why (in other words, what's your rationale as a critic of these stories?)
- Story – This is a digital story so story should be the most important.
- Content Understanding – If the person is taking a stance or educating, I want to know that they know what they’re talking about.
- Originality, Voice, Creativity – I am interested in how these stories use creativity to help our generation stay engaged.
- The extent to which these traits are successfully present and utilized in the given stories
- Story – I actually didn’t expect much of a story when I clicked on this one. I thought it would be simply informative about 3D printing. I was interested to see what she had to say since this was made in 2013 and 3D printing has advanced since then even though it was only three years ago. I was surprised to learn that there was a story in this one. As simple as it was, I was interested to see if she was able to fix her glasses or not.
- Content Understanding – She definitely understood 3D printing and how far it has come. She told some history of it, where it was in 2013, and then where it might go after this video. She also touched on the copyright issues of 3D printing which I think is a valid point. She wouldn’t want to make glasses and then be in a copyright infringement.
- Originality, Voice, Creativity – The video is original. She shares her own story about how she discovered 3D Printing. The voice in this one was very hard to understand. I can tell that she is trying to enunciate but it is still quite hard to understand. It was quite creative with the story but she did use the same image quite a few times.
- What these traits fail to capture about the selected story (that is, what other characteristics of the story are noteworthy, and why?)
- She certainly told the history of 3D printing as she went along. It was not only a story but also a history lesson. She also told about the importance of 3D printing and even touched on how it might affect education.
- Based upon your trait evaluation, what modifications and changes to this digital story might improve aspects of narrative, production, media usage, and/or audience engagement?
- I would change two things about this one. First, the voice was very hard to understand. She might need a friend to read the script or even a computer voice so it’s easier to understand. Secondly, I would change the question mark image because it was used multiple times throughout the video and it got a little old by the end.
